COMFORT KITS

Little Lambs Comfort Kit Program

In the state of Utah, there is an average of 2,900 children in the foster care system at any given time. We provide comfort kits to every Department of Child and Family Services office in the state of Utah on a continuous basis. We provide for children entering foster care from newborn babies all the way up to age 17.

During a foster care removal, the children are removed quickly from their home due to neglect and other dangerous situations. Getting the child into a safe environment is the first priority of social workers and police officers, therefore, the child’s personal items are left behind.

Every bag or backpack is packed with love and is filled with items to provide comfort, support, and hope to our littlest community members during the most traumatic time of their lives.

Comfort Kit Program Goals

“Distribute a backpack of necessities to every child being placed into foster care and emergency shelters in our distribution locations.”

(1) Provide new belongings, comfort and hope to children who must be rescued from abuse, neglect, and abandonment.

(2) Address the immediate physical and emotional needs of rescued children and help support the agencies caring for them.

(3) Provide a sense of self-worth and self-confidence by giving foster children a backpack of new items that now belong to them and them alone.

What's in a Comfort Kit?

A Comfort Kit starts with a new backpack or diaper bag and contains a plush animal, blanket, book, hygiene items, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, hairbrush/comb, coloring books, crayons/colored pencils, juice box, snacks and a toy. Items are hand selected for each age range and gender.
